Set up as an extension campus of IIIT Allahabad in 2005, the Govt has decided to shut down Rajiv Gandhi IIIT Amethi. The last batch of its 148 students has been shifted to IIIT Allahabad.

As per the statement of Mr G C Nandi, Director – IIIT Allahabad, “After a feasibility study by the Indranil Manna Committee appointed by the MHRD development in February 2015, it was found that the Amethi facility had not admitted any local student in the past decade. Because of poor infrastructure in the region, it was causing an inconvenience to outstation students. So, the committee recommended in September 2015 the closure of this campus.“

The existing Amethi infrastructure would be handed over to Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University and National Skill Development Corporation. Nandi added that it has already been decided by the MHRD and the handover will be completed in a week.
